An Open Letter to the Garrett County Business Community
This is the time of the year when the Garrett Mentors organization would typically be launching its fundraising campaign — reaching out to individuals and the local business community for donations and ticket sales to host our popular Barn Dance originally scheduled for this fall on September 19 at Sang Hill Farms. However, in light of the hardships being experienced in our county due to COVID-19, we cannot in all compassion and fairness seek support from individuals and businesses who are struggling financially today and facing unknown challenges and hardships in the near future.
Therefore, the Garrett Mentors board of directors has decided to cancel this year’s annual fund-raising and Barn Dance, our largest revenue source. For the past 11 years the outstanding support from the community for the Barn Dance as well as other generous donations have provided the Garrett Mentors with the means to provide caring and dedicated mentors to children in need of positive adult role models. Thanks to that overwhelming support, we are able to and will continue to work to achieve our valuable mission.
So for now, we will look forward to the best-ever Barn Dance next year, featuring a BBQ dinner, live music, a silent auction, hayrides, and children’s activities including petting zoo, pony rides, games, face painting and more for all ages. But, most importantly we must do what we can to support the local business community that has been so very supportive of Garrett Mentors in the past.
Garrett County children need mentors today more than ever before!
