She attended Acadia University (BA) and John Hopkins University (MS). After retirement, she was interested in keeping her connection and commitment to education and maintaining contact with elementary school children who are facing learning and environmental challenges in their lives. The Garrett Mentor Study Buddy program provided her with the opportunity to do so She has found the experience to be deeply rewarding and inspiring, despite the challenges involved. Kathy says “I have been able to form sincere and lasting relationships with my study buddies that have benefited both them and me in many ways. Our weekly mentoring sessions provide the opportunity to reinforce weak academic skills, discuss topics of interest or concern to my buddies, and support positive attitudes and behavior. It is highly gratifying to see the progress that my students have made and the excitement and pleasure they derive from our time together in school and the special out-of-school activities.”
