Can you spare 30 - 60 minutes a week to make a difference in the life of a child?

About Us

We are a non-profit organization founded in 2008 serving Garrett County, Maryland. We are committed to providing the Pre-kindergarten through grade five children in the Garrett County Public Schools with caring, committed, adult mentors. Our volunteer mentors are adults of all ages who serve as positive role models to children with various needs and backgrounds.

Mentors meet with the child they are matched with once a week during the child’s lunchtime at the child’s school. We also provide our children and their mentors with several out-of-school bonding experiences throughout the year.

In March 2013, Garrett Mentors was presented with the Golden Apple Award for Garrett County by the Comptroller of Maryland for superior volunteer work in Maryland public schools. Our motto is “Inspire by example!”

Print the ticket at the link below and present to your waiter or waitress. A portion of each bill will be donated to the Garrett Mentors Inc. Rear Admiral Richard B. Schiff Scholarship Fund. The purpose of the scholarship shall be to provide support and benefit for Garrett College students. The scholarship is designed to assist students from Garrett County. Candidates who were enrolled in the Garrett Mentors, Inc. program will be given preference. Secondary preference will be given to military members or current or former military dependents. Rick Schiff was a dedicated member of the Garrett Mentors organization. Rick was a Garrett Mentors, Inc. past President, a board member and strong volunteer mentor in the program. He was the first to step up when help was needed, not just for Garrett Mentors, but for many other organizations as well. He was also a dear friend to many and the Garrett County community.  We are dedicated to continuing his legacy through the children we serve through our lunchtime mentoring program for children in need of positive adult role models.
